Necros have a lot of value.

A necro/monk with a decent amount in soul reaping has limitless energy, when things go south you can create well of blood and rebirth players into it. Granted rebirth removes all your energy but a couple of deaths and your back in ther game. Many a mission has been saved by a properly placed well.

Minion Master (MMs) can get up to 10 minions which can overcome most bad agro.

Blood, when combined with mes skills, can put some much degen on a guy that even 2 monks won't stop the death.

When the curses spell Spitfull Spirit (SS) is combined with the mesmer skill archane echo you are making a nasty AoE with out the side effect of monster fleeing. Spinal Shiver can interupt just about anything. Now there are some nasty curses that can silence the most anoying Paragon.

Blood is Power (BiP) can keep everyone's, especially the monk, energy going.

Order of Pain and Order of Vampire (orders) can be used for a team spike, in which the target is dead before the monk can get off a heal spell.

Degen maxes at -10, and a monk can take care of most of that without spending *any* energy, with Signet of Devotion. Giving max degen to an entire opposing team is a worthwhile endeavor, however.

The Roles of a Necromancer:

Minion Master - virtually endless supply of undead allies (capped at 10 though)

Blood Spike - blood magic spells that quickly kills an opponent

Hex Spammer - curse magic spells that have a variety of uses such as, interruption (Spinal Shivers), AoE Damage (Spiteful Spirit, Reckless Haste, Desecerate and Defile Enchantments), melee shutdown (Enfeeble line, Shadow of Fear), Caster shutdown (Soul Barbs, Soul Leach), Support damage (Barbs and Mark of Pain) and much much more.

Order Necromancer - Specializes in Order of Pain/Order of the Vampire, that greatly increases the DPS of melee attacks (used often in barrage/pet groups)

Battery - revolves around the skill, Blood is Power, which can basically grant 10 energy regeneration to casters. Very easy to maintain on the whole party.

Degeneration - Selection of spells that can easily give enemies a large amount of degeneration

Wells - specializes in the uses of wells, which can effectively heal/protect the party and also greatly hinder enemy forces.

Boss Killer - this build focuses on the skill, Spoil Victor, a hex that deals 105 damage to an opponent that attacks or casts a spell on someone lower life than he is. Because bosses have twice the amount of health than a normal creature, this skill can easily bring their health down. Also, major bosses that are lvl 30, have a crazy amount of health (at least 10k+), making this skill extremely effective.

I think that about covers it.
